-
Why do we use a sand/salt mixture?
-
The cost of salt has doubled in the last two
years. By using the 1/3 salt and 2/3 mixture we can keep costs down.
We also have the options of using only salt for extreme cold or ice
events

Sewers
-
Sewers/Lift stations
-
The Village of Rochester maintains eight miles of
sanitary sewer lines. The system has two lift stations each having
two pumps which alternate pumping the material on its way to the
Western Racine County Sewerage District treatment plant.
Redundant pump systems ensure that the chance of a backup is very
low. Both lift stations have a backup generator in case of
power failure. The lift stations also have an automatic dialing
system that notify authorities in case of sensor or pump failure.
-
Areas of concern
-
Help us save you money. Our biggest problem is
grease! Grease builds up in our sewer lines and lift stations. This
causes sensors to malfunction and forces us to clean our lift
station wet wells with increasing frequency. Please dispose of
kitchen grease in some way other than sending it down the drain.
-
Sump pumps and gutter down spouts are also a
concern. Don't let them flush into the sewer. Everyone has to pay
for the increased flow.

Weed
Commissioner
GENERAL NOTICE TO RESIDENTS -- RE: NOXIOUS
WEEDS
Notice is hereby given that every person shall destroy
all noxious weeds on all lands which he shall own, occupy or control.
The Weed Commissioner shall investigate concerning the existence of
noxious weeds in the district. The term "noxious weeds" includes
Canadian Thistle, leafy spurge and field bindweed (creeping jenny) and
other such weeds as the governing body of the municipality declares by
ordinance or resolution to be noxious within its boundaries.
Where the Weed Commissioner finds the existence of
noxious weeds he shall, after first giving five days written notice,
either in person or by mail, and if the weeds have not been
destroyed in that period of time, destroy or cause to be destroyed all
such weeds in a manner deemed to be the most economical method. For each
day devoted to doing so the Weed Commissioner shall receive such
compensation as is determined by the municipal board and give an
accounting for such action specifying by separate items the amount
chargeable to each piece of land, describing the same, and shall, after
being paid, file a report with the municipal clerk, who shall enter the
amount chargeable to each tract of land in the next tax roll as a
special assessment, and shall be collected as other taxes are collected.
